✅ 8 diphthongs
This free screener facilitates the assessment of both monophthongs and diphthongs. It comprises of four stimulus pictures for each of the 20 vowel sounds, resulting in a total of 80 images, and includes a record form.
Stimulus pictures for eliciting connected speech samples are also included (x5) to assess vowel production in spontaneous connected speech.
Vowels constitute a fundamental element of spoken language, and attaining a thorough comprehension of vowels is essential for developing literacy skills, encompassing crucial phonological awareness abilities such as syllable recognition, segmenting, and blending.
In diagnosing childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), vowel errors can serve as a diagnostic indicator and may manifest in up to 50% of children with CAS. While vowel errors are observed in young children, they are noted in only up to 4% of children beyond 35 months of age. This screening tool offers speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and speech and language therapists (SLTs) a thorough assessment of vowels and production consistency.
